Korean Air’s ‘sense of security’, Lim Dong-hyeok

The strand was caught by staying.

Korean Air apogee spiker Lim Dong-hyuk earned his first FA (free agent) status after his V-League debut. With an annual salary of 315 million won last season (option 65 million won), he belongs to Class A (more than 250 million won), and he is considered a lumber to lead men’s volleyball as a ‘native apogee’.

According to the volleyball world, there were love calls from multiple clubs, but the strand was caught by remaining with the original club.

First of all, I have a lot of affection for Korean Air. After graduating from Jecheon Industrial High School, Lim Dong-hyuk, who challenged himself to the pros in the ‘early draft’, wore a Korean Air uniform in the 6th place in the 1st round of the 2017-2018 season.

He shared the joys and sorrows. In his first professional season, he played in 12 matches and 34 sets, and was mainly used as a one-point server. At the time, it was not easy to guarantee playing time because there was an apogee of Mitt Gasparini. The 2018-2019 season was no different, as he played the second round of the championship match, raising expectations for his next season, but he stayed in the warm-up zone again.

His turning point was the 2020-2021 season먹튀검증. In the 2020-2021 season, when former coach Roberto Santili took the helm, he played in 123 sets of 33 matches and accumulated 506 points (51.23% attack success rate). Andres Vijena, a foreigner who was in the same position, terminated his contract with the team due to a knee injury during the season, and filled the position firmly until a replacement foreigner arrived. He contributed to the team’s first combined victory by playing the role of one wing, such as changing the highest individual score.

Korean Air has accumulated the achievement of a combined championship for three consecutive years this season and the team’s first treble. Lim Dong-hyuk participated in 34 matches and 116 sets, scoring 278 points. Compared to last season (35 games, 119 sets, 419 points), the playing time has decreased, but I want to be a part of the V-League’s unprecedented 4 consecutive combined championships.

The ‘sense of stability’ given by the team is also one of the reasons why I thought about staying. It seems that non-game factors such as the training system and environment of Korean Air, which is accompanied by a foreign coach for three consecutive seasons, and the relationship between colleagues, influenced Lim Dong-hyuk.

Korean Air’s strategy for the next season will not change significantly. Director Tommy Tillikainen and Lincoln Williams were almost certain to accompany him. The same goes for Yoo Kwang-woo, who obtained his third FA qualification. Libero Park Ji-hoon will enlist in the Armed Forces Athletic Corps (Sangmu) in May, but there are no major changes.

If another team recruits Lim Dong-hyuk, who belongs to Class A, the club must pay one compensation player other than the five protected players or compensation of 300% of the previous season’s annual salary to all clubs of the recruiting free agent.

The FA negotiation period is until 6pm on the 19th. The club that recruited the FA must submit a list of protected players to the original club by noon on the 20th, and the original club must select a compensation player by 6:00 pm on the 23rd.
