In the first half of the season, Hermann topped the list after throwing a nine-strikeout perfect game against the Oakland Athletics on June 29 (ET).
In that game, Hermann threw 99 pitches (72 for strikes) over nine innings, allowing no runs on no hits and striking out nine. It was the 24th perfect game in major league history.
Hermann earned a 96 on ESPN’s scale. That puts him ahead of Gerrit Cole and Marcus Stroman, who both had 92 points.
A right-handed starter in his sixth year in the majors, Hermann was suspended this season for using foreign substances. He’s also not having a great season. His first half ERA is 4.32.
However, Hermann’s best performance came on June 29 in Oakland, where he threw a historic perfect game and was named American League Pitcher of the Week.
