Taxi driver who reported Jung Yoo Jung received a reward of 1 million won, but “complained of trauma”

Taxi driver A, who first reported Jung Yoo-jeong (23), who was suspected of killing a fellow woman and mutilating her body, received a reward and a certificate of appreciation for his efforts, but he is still complaining of trauma.

According to the Geumjeong Police Station in Busan on the 8th, a certificate of appreciation, a small gift, and a reward of 1 million won were given to Mr. A for his contribution to the arrest of Jung Jeong-jeong. Originally, a commendation ceremony was planned, but it was not held because the victim was complaining of trauma and avoiding contact with others.

Mr. A was a taxi driver who was traveling to the area when Jung Jeong-jeong murdered the victim on March 26 and abandoned a suitcase containing parts of her body along the Nakdong River.

The driver was suspicious that a woman was dragging the suitcase alone late at night, and called the police when he noticed blood on his hands after helping her remove the suitcase from the trunk.

The police responded to the scene and transported Jung to the hospital, claiming that she was “bleeding” due to the traces of blood found at the scene, but later realized that there were no traces of blood and urgently arrested her.

It was reported that Jung had been searching for “murder,” “murder without a body,” and “murder case” for three months and had been watching many criminal investigation programs. Some experts believe that without Ms. A’s report, a serial killer might have been committed, including the preparation of the crime.

The reward received by Mr. A is in accordance with the Regulation on Rewarding Meritorious Persons for Apprehending Criminals, which was revised in 2020, and provides a reward of 1 million won for helping to apprehend a suspect in a crime punishable by death, life imprisonment, imprisonment for life, or imprisonment for 10 years or more.

The reward amount varies depending on the crime. Crimes punishable by less than 10 years of imprisonment or a fine are worth 500,000 won, and crimes punishable by less than five years of imprisonment or a fine of 10 years or more are worth 300,000 won.

Currently, Jung is reportedly eating three meals a day in prison and sleeping well.

In a recent psychopathic index test conducted by police, Jung scored 28, one point higher than Kang Ho-soon, who killed his wife and mother-in-law and kidnapped and murdered eight women in 2005.

The Psychopathy Diagnostic Test (PCL-R) consists of a total of 20 questions divided into guilt, remorse, lack of empathy, callousness, impulsivity, and irresponsibility, and is said to score between 10 and 15 points in the general population.

Meanwhile, the Busan District Prosecutor’s Office has set up a dedicated investigation team for Jung Yoo-jeong’s case, consisting of three prosecutors’ offices under the Violent Crimes Division. They plan to conduct the investigation until the 11th, the deadline for Jung’s detention, and extend the detention deadline once more if necessary.
