A stage set collapsed during rehearsals for a Children’s Day event in China. Nine kindergarten students were injured in the accident.

According to local media such as Xinhua on the 31st (스포츠토토Korean time), at around 5:40 p.m. on the 28th, while preparing for a Children’s Day (June 1) event in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, a screen at the back of the stage collapsed and fell on the children.

Nine kindergarteners were injured in the accident and taken to hospital.

“The screen collapsed less than 20 seconds after the 20 kindergarten students took the stage to rehearse,” an eyewitness said. The screen reportedly collapsed as the children were singing the first verse of the song, “We are the heirs of communism.”

Authorities are still trying to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.

Meanwhile, Children’s Day in China is celebrated on 1 June as “Children’s Day”. While Children’s Day is a legal holiday in South Korea, it is not a legal holiday in China.
